When it comes to web development, the number of tools you can use is almost endless. While this gives you more options when building your app or website, it also makes it difficult to decide which tools are the best to use. No one wants to waste their time learning to use tools that will quickly become obsolete! In this article, we’ll take a look at some of the most popular front-end web Development Tools in 2022 and how they might change over time to improve website design.
Top 7 Web Development Tools To Use in 2022
1) Sublime Text
Sublime Text is a fast, sophisticated text editor for code, markup, and prose. You’ll love the slick user interface and extraordinary features. If you need to edit any kind of Text, Sublime Text should be your go-to tool. It’s free, open-source software available for Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux.
Atom has become my go-to editor for a few reasons. It’s open-source, it’s built by GitHub (an awesome company), and its extensive package management ecosystem makes adding support for new languages and tools easy. Plus, with code completion (so you don’t have to memorize all those API calls) and Smart Auto-Completion that offers suggestions based on context, it just makes writing code so much easier. Atom is my top choice right now!
3) Visual Studio Code
Today, Microsoft says VS Code is used by more than 20 million developers per month, across platforms—and it’s available natively on Windows 10 S (an optimized version of Windows 10) as well as iOS and Android via download or app store install. As you might expect from Microsoft, VS Code includes support for all kinds of languages and plugins (most notably including VSCode Marketplace), making it a great general coding tool to have in your repertoire.
Bitbucket is a web-based hosting service for projects that use either Mercurial or Git revision control systems. Developers use it to host their code, track changes, and collaborate on projects from a central location. Bitbucket features include source browser and diff, task management, wikis, and more.
5) Sketch App
Sketch is an awesome, easy-to-use app that allows you to quickly and easily create design elements. It’s a great addition to any designer’s toolbox. Sketch has gained widespread popularity since its release as a Mac app in 2009, but what makes it so unique?
First of all, it was created by Bohemian Coding; they also happen to be behind another popular design tool—the Pixelmator image editor. They know how designers think because they are designers themselves. That insight shines through with Sketch: everything about the program has been designed to make your life easier (and more fun). The interface is slick and intuitive; there are tons of custom UI controls for buttons, menus, sliders…you name it!
6) InVision App
While it may not be your favorite, it’s probably a safe bet that InVision will be at least one of your favorites. The design and prototyping app is popular among designers, who use it to create interfaces and get feedback from clients. No wonder InVision ranked as one of Fast Company’s 50 Most Innovative Companies in 2017.
It is also worth noting that InVision is one of DesignRush’s front-end Web development tools to watch for in 2022 because their cloud platform makes it easy for teams to work together on projects.
In just a few years, GIMP has become one of the most popular tools among hobbyist front-end developers. With regular updates and a robust community behind it, GIMP offers a fantastic array of features. The latest version includes more than a dozen filters that give your images a polished look. Not to mention, its responsive layout makes it easy to use on phones and tablets too.
Oh yeah—and did we mention you can use it for free? That said, despite all its awesomeness, GIMP isn’t as well known or widely used as some other options on our list (read: Adobe Photoshop). If you want to save yourself about $250 a year, though, we recommend giving GIMP a try.
I hope that you enjoy these tools and that they help you become a better developer. I will continue to update my list, as I find new tools that make our lives easier, so please feel free to share your favorite website development tools in 2022 as well!
